Findlay’s history dates back to the War of 1812 when Colonel James Findlay built a road that was used to transport and shelter troops to the Great Black Swamp region. Originally named Fort Findlay, the community’s first town lots were laid out in 1821. The city experienced a boom period as it was a center for oil and natural gas production which has since been depleted. However, Findlay continued to experience growth after the completion of Interstate 75 in the 1960s.
This thriving city is home to the Findlay University Oilers as well as Owens Community College, Winebrenner Theological Seminary and a branch campus of Brown Mackie College.
