As the largest port town on the Crystal Coast, Morehead City celebrates its maritime appeal with a vast waterfront and long line of fishing charter boats. Situated in Carteret County, this seaside spot is one of North Carolina’s few deep-water port cities. For years it has been known as a resort community, attracting summer vacationers as well as water-loving residents.
Morehead City’s economy is largely based on eco-tourism activities and a thriving retirement community. As of the 2012 U.S. Census, the population of the city was a little more than 9,000.
Like other North Carolina locales, Morehead City has a fairly mild climate. During the summer, temperatures climb to the 90s and in the winter, averages hardly get lower than 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
