Known for its Southern charm and lagniappe goodness - which are small gifts given to customers - Shreveport, Louisiana, is a commercial and cultural hub of the Ark-La-Tex region, where Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas meet. It is the third-largest city in Louisiana with a population of about 201,000, as of the 2012 U.S. Census, and sits along the Red River. Shreveport was founded in 1836 by the Shreve Town Company, a corporation established to develop a town at the juncture of the Red River and the Texas Trail, which was an overland route to the newly independent Republic of Texas.
The original town site consisted of 64 city blocks along the river and Cross Bayou, a tributary of the Red River. Today, you will find this area as the city’s central business district and a National Register of Historic Places.
As far as weather goes, Shreveport experiences sizzling summers with temperatures reaching the 90s. During the winter, averages hover around the 50s.
